why I am riding

I was asked yesterday by a reporter, “Why was I riding in this Tour Against Trafficking?”

My quick response was from my ‘counselor/social worker’ viewpoint, and I said the usual – ‘we need to end this atrocity’ etc… But my second thought is a wee bit more, and personal. AND, just so you know, it’s not because I am married to the Bishop – I love him dearly, but these are my thoughts. : )

I am a woman. This ‘atrocity’ primarily victimizes women. And, unfortunately, the perpetrators are predominately men. So, for me, it has to be a women’s issue. I think we need to empower women and girls, by being powerful women with powerful girls – so we need to speak up! In this case, we need females on Bikes!! No matter how fast, no matter how slow. Thank you to the riders who have slowed their pace for others to catch up. Thank you to the women who have ridden so far. You may not even know it, but you are very important.
