early morning

I am sitting outside in the cool morning air behind St. Andrews, savoring the quiet and peacefulness of the morning, the lull before the storm.

The Rev. Heather Mueller and her congregation greeted us most graciously and fed us most wonderfully last night. Chicken and dumplings was a fitting last meal before getting on the saddle.

At times it has felt as though we were running a marathon to get to this point. All of the preparation, planning, meetings, conversations, screening of The Trafficked Life, events should all pay off today. In one sense, the easy part begins. The next few days will see if our bodies are ready.

In many ways the Tour has already been successful. Now we will see if we are able to capture people’s imaginations and sense of justice. Now we need to pedal, now we need to ride and talk about others in our country who are denied basic freedoms.

We are incredibly thankful for our partners in this effort, The United Way of Kern County and Motor City. We are also incredibly thankful for all of our supporters and solidarity dioceses.
