Rev'd David Rice, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of the San Joaquin

David Rice, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of the San Joaquin

I am David Rice, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of the San Joaquin.  There are two things I wish to offer about myself in this brief introduction.

Firstly, I believe the Episcopal Church is called to join God wherever God may be.  And this ubiquitous God is most certainly found as much with our sisters and brothers who are located on the margins of society than God is found with those of us who perhaps convince ourselves that we are "margin-free."  Personally, I'm not altogether sure anyone is margin-free, suffice it to say, I do believe the church of which I am a part must spend far more time on the margins than it does.  To use the language of scripture: We are here "to bring release to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind, and to set at liberty to those who are oppressed."  (Isaiah 61:1)

The second thing I wish to offer about myself is that I love to ride bikes.  I love road bikes, mtn bikes, beach bikes, fixed gear bikes, recumbents, even unicycles.  I love riding competitively and leisurely.  I absolutely love riding bikes.

Put these two things together, that is, a view of the church which  is "missional" and a love for cycling and we come, I believe quite appropriately, to The Tour Against Trafficking.  I hope you will enjoy this website.  More importantly, I hope you will support us in this Tour in any way you are able.

+David
